New SRO for BHS

Updated: Feb 15, 2023

As we welcome many new faces to our school, there’s a new face that I’m sure you all have seen. Our new School Resource Officer Corey Resendes is the second youngest member of the Barrington Police Department and has served on the force for a little bit over a year now.

“I encourage students to say hi and not feel overwhelmed that a police officer is in their school,” Officer Resendes said with a smile, adding that one of his goals is to not make students feel overwhelmed or anxious as he tries his best to be a presence in the hallways of BHS while interacting with as many students as he can.

Another one of his goals is for all of us to have a safe and productive school year.

Officer Resendes recently graduated from Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts, where in addition to his studies he played Division I football, punting for the Warriors. He loves football and encourages students to swing by his office near the main gym entrance and spark up a conversation about sports—any sport.

Although he acknowledges that he can appear intimidating, Officer Resendes said his intention is to make everyone feel welcome.

“I know the uniform and tools we wear can be an intimidating presence,” he said. “But we are here to help first!”

So far, he said we have made him feel very welcome and he enjoys the atmosphere and wants to contribute actively to our well-being.

“I encourage students to come and talk about anything that may be on their mind,” he affirmed. “I'm here for you all and want you all to succeed.”
