Classes “Battle” Over Thanksgiving Food Drive

Stuffing, instant mashed potatoes, brownies, cake and gravy. Not in that order, of course, but you get the picture.

On Thursday, November 17, senior CeCe West appeared on Sunrise during Advisory to challenge Barrington High School students and teachers to support the Student Council’s Thanksgiving food drive.

“Seniors are bringing in stuffing mix, Juniors are bringing in instant mashed potatoes, sophomores are bringing in brownie mix, freshmen are bringing in cake mix, and the faculty are bringing in Gravy,” West told the audience.

The food items were collected in the foyer on November 24 to help feed East Bay families this holiday season.

Overall, freshmen brought in 40 boxes of cake mix, sophomores brought in 40 boxes of brownie mix, juniors brought in 40 packages of instant potato mix, teachers brought in 80 jars of gravy and seniors brought in 200 boxes of stuffing mix.

One group of seniors even bought from three different stores to bring in as many boxes of stuffing as they could. That means over 400 food items were donated to Tap-in this week, a huge accomplishment for the BHS community.

And this year’s Thanksgiving food drive came with a competitive twist to encourage more donations: whichever group brought in the most of their assigned food was awarded additional Battle of the Classes points.

The class that sourced the most materials by far was the seniors, making them five points ahead in the Battle of the Classes! They now have thirteen points, followed by sophomores with nine, freshmen with five, and juniors are tied with the faculty at four points.

Make sure to help your class by participating in the next event and keep the school spirit alive!
